This often overlooked
coastal
town is located west of Jerez de la Frontera,
10 km to the south of Sanlucar. Chipiona was
a
traditional holiday and spa resort at the
end of the last century. The town has four
fine long beaches; Regla, La Ballena, Tres
Piedras and Cruz del Mar.
There are several sights worth a visit in Chipiona;
the Iglesia de nuestra Senora de la O (church),
the monument to the Cruz del Mar and the viewpoint,
situated next to the lighthouse. The lighthouse
marks the entrance to the Guadalquivir river
estuary and is Spain’s tallest. Chipiona
is also well known locally for the production
of a sweet wine, Moscatel. |
