Just northeast of the Cola del Embalse de Arcos Natural Area, is the Embalse de Bornos, which has a 630ha protected area in its north eastern section. It is similar in flora and fauna to the Embalse de Arcos.

Access: From Arcos de la Frontera, take the A382 towards Villamartín, which passes by and then over the reservoir.

Flora: The vegetation is similar to the Embalse de Arcos, with reeds around the reservoir shores. There are also patches of tamarisk.

Fauna: Grey, purple and night herons, egrets and ospreys are found here. Otters are the main mammals in the reservoir.

Bornos is active in ecological tourism, but above all it is a beautiful village watered by the river Guadalete, which forms a large reservoir as it passes this community and is the site of the Cola del Embalse de Bornos Natural Area.

The possibilities of activities to do in Bornos are very varied for the traveller. Tours on the Cola del Embalse (reservoir); visits to the Carissa Aurelia Roman settlement ruins; travelling stretches of the Vía Verde which is a trail perfect for hiking and cycle tourism. Grab your backpack, rent a rural house and enjoy a few days in the heart of nature.

But aside from nature, Bornos has a historical centre that has been declared of National Tourism Interest in which the Ribera Palace, the Fontanar Castle, the Corpus Christi convent and the beautiful gardens of the Palace Ducal are outstanding.
